Amazing Spider-Man's Last Remains begins, and Avengers' Age of Khonshu ends






Marvel Unlimited has many big additions in January 2021 - from new series to big endings. The publisher's Netflix-style comics reading service is a repository of many of Marvel's past comics, with new additions each week - and new comics joining the service as soon as three months after their original release.

The big additions this month are the penultimate chapters of the recent 'X of Swords' crossover event with the X-Men, the finale of Avengers' 'Age of Khonshu' pitting a powered-up Moon Knight against Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and the beginning of Amazing Spider-Man's 'Last Remains' arc, pitting Peter against the long-simmering villain Kindred.

Several new series have made their Marvel Unlimited debuts this month: Warhammer 40,000: Marneus Calgar, Marvel's first foray into Games Workshop's epic sci-fi drama; and Werewolf by Night, a new limited series about Jack Russell with creators including none other than Taboo from The Black-Eyed Peas.

And there are also endings - the complete Marvels X limited series is now on Marvel Unlimited. That series mixes the worlds of Marvels and Earth X, with original co-creator Alex Ross onboard for the sequel/prequel.

Ca a peut-être déjà été dit mais Marvel unlimited a remédié aux difficultés liés à la lecture des events en cours.
On a une jolie section reading list qui présente toutes les séries et tie in de l'even dans l'ordre. Maintenant, il est plus pratique de suivre ces évènement en digital qu'en physique.
Notez que le problème avait déjà été résolu pour les events passés qui ont leur propre section.
Il y a encore certains points à améliorer et les performances pourraient parfois être meilleures mais MU est déjà un must en terme de contenu/qualité/prix et ça continue de s'améliorer.

L'annonce de la création d'un label comics par James Tynion IV pour la plateforme Substack n'était en réalité qu'un aspect d'une opération de recrutement bien plus vaste. Initialement pensée comme une plateforme pour que les auteurs, autrices, journalistes, etc... créent leurs newsletters (gratuites ou payantes, mais plutôt à tendance payante pour les personnalités les plus connues), Substack a mis visiblement beaucoup de billets pour aller chercher plusieurs célébrités de l'industrie de la bande dessinée américaine. Voyez plutôt.

ALL-STAR SUBSTACK
C'est un bref papier du New York Times qui fait le point sur cette grosse opération de recrutement au sein du monde des comics. L'initiative provient par ailleurs de Nick Spencer (dont la venue sur Substack et la raison de l'arrêt de ses travaux sur Amazing Spider-Man), qui a mis en contact un petit groupe de scénaristes avec Substack afin de monter cette opération. L'idée est venue au cours de la pandémie et du confinement du printemps 2020, alors que la plupart des comicshops étaient fermés, et que des alternatives pour rester au contact du lectorat étaient à l'étude. Bien que l'offre numérique peine à dépasser les 10% du chiffre d'affaire annuel du marché des comics aux US, le fait de capitaliser sur quelques gros noms pourrait bien comm

Sont également à venir dès les prochaines semaines sinon mois Jonathan Hickman, Molly Ostertag, Scott Snyder et Saladin Ahmed, chacun ayant son propre projet, mais toujours lié aux comics, et à chaque fois avec des modalités d'abonnement qui leur seront propres. Dans l'ordre, on sait déjà que Jonathan Hickman travaille de concert avec Mike Del Mundo et Mike Huddleston (avec qui il a déjà réalisé l'incroyable Decorum) pour un titre qui s'appelle Three Worlds, Three Moons, un projet d'univers participatif dans lequel les lecteurs et lectrices auront leur mot à dire pour son développement. Une approche qui permettra également de ramener d'autres scénaristes, avec les noms de Ram V et Tini Howard déjà listés.

Scott Snyder est lui déjà bien occupé avec ses huit comics annoncés dans le cadre de son partenariat avec ComiXology Originals. Il utilisera néanmoins sa newsletter pour donner des cours et conseils d'écriture, moyennant un abonnement déjà fixé à 7$ par mois. Il en ira de même pour Molly Ostertag (la trilogie du Garçon Sorcière, à retrouver aux éditions Kinaye), qui doit avec sa newsletter prodiguer quelques introspections sur son travail, et sérialiser un futur roman graphique. Enfin, Saladin Ahmed a déjà annoncé qu'il profitera de Substack pour montrer à son lectorat Terrorwar, un titre d'anticipation et d'horreur illustré par Dave Acosta dans lequel les citoyens doivent affronter les manifestations physiques de leurs peurs. Un premier visuel est à retrouver en fin d'article.

La formule minimale payante sur Substack est de 5$/mois et sera très certainement le facteur limitant de cette vaste opération de recrutement. Quoique chacun des auteurs et autrices représentés (alors que d'autres sont également attendus par la suite) ont leur propre lectorat, on imagine qu'il sera difficile pour chacun d'aligner à chaque fois 5$ au minimum pour pouvoir suivre toutes les productions de leurs scénaristes préférés. D'un point de vue modèle économique, Substack finançant les travaux des nouvelles recrues, la plateforme récupèrera la première année quasi 100% des recettes sur les abonnements, avant de passer à une commission de 10%. A l'heure où la façon dont les éditeurs (surtout Marvel et DC Comics) traitent leurs créatifs, et où le modèle Image Comics (qui oblige les artistes à travailler sans revenus assurés le temps que les numéros sortent et que les recettes arrivent ensuite) ne suffit plus, l'alternative Substack se présente comme un possible point tournant dans les mécanismes de fonctionnement de l'industrie de la bande dessinée.

En outre, les contrats avec Substack laissent les scénaristes complètement libre sur les droits de publication de leurs comics - une très bonne nouvelle pour nos éditeurs français qui pourraient être intéressés par l'une ou l'autre publication. Bien entendu, les développements seront suivis avec attention.

Près d'un an après avoir commencé à évoquer le sujet, Scott Snyder dresse un premier point sur l'enclave éditoriale Best Jacket Press, studio, imprint ou sous-société pensée pour diriger ses futurs projets sur le marché indépendant. Le scénariste s'est exprimé par le biais d'une newsletter sur les premières modalités de cette nouvelle entreprise, déjà représentée par la série Nocterra avec Tony Daniel, et rétroactivement, Wytches, chez Image Comics.

MEILLEURE JACQUETTE APPUIE
Enthousiaste, Scott Snyder explique avoir été dirigé par son ami Will Dennis, le bonhomme responsable de la validation de la première version d'American Vampire chez Vertigo, engagé comme éditeur pour Best Jacket Press, vers Comixology. L'auteur explique que les tarifs proposés par le département des créations originales de cette structure permettait aux artistes mobilisés sur ces futurs projets de se consacrer pleinement à chaque série en cours, sans s'éparpiller et sans avoir besoin de chercher du travail alimentaire en parallèle.

Il évoque la possibilité de faire éditer à terme les projets de Best Jacket Press en physique par le biais de Dark Horse, en partenariat avec Comixology pour l'impression en albums des propositions originales de l'enseigne. D'autres points sont un peu plus flous, comme par exemple la possibilité d'acheter en bundle, ou de faciliter l'accès aux différents projets de son imprint à coups de réductions éventuelles. Pour l'heure, Scott Snyder liste une impressionnante liste de huit titres en développement, avec Greg Capullo, Francis Manapul, Francesco Francavilla, Tula Lotay, Jamal Igle, Dan Panosian, Rafa Albuquerque et Jock. Certains avaient déjà été annoncés, d'autres se précisent enfin.

Le site Comixology a fermé depuis quelques semaines et si on a toujours accès à ses comics et à l'app maintenant il faut aller acheter sur le site d'Amazon. Et il est impossible d'acheter des comics VO depuis la France ou la Belgique.

On peut apparemment en acheter sur l'app livres d'Apple (et probablement l'équivalent Android), mais je n'ai jamais testé son ergonomie.

Ca va devenir bien galère de suivre la VO légalement en numérique à l'exception de Marvel Unlimited.

J'ai toujours accès à l'appli en Belgique en tout cas.

J'ai aussi accès à l'appli sur mon téléphone Android. Par contre, le site comixology.fr me renvoie vers la page Kindle d'Amazon. Donc c'est beaucoup moins lisible, je ne sais absolument pas s'il y a des promos et donc, encore moins de chance que j'achète chez eux ...

en effet l appli est de nouveau utilisable..
